January 12, 2016

On January 1, 2016, New Mexico began providing online voter registration. The new system will allow eligible residents with a state-issued I.D. to register or update their registration online at the Secretary of State’s website.

The safe, secure, and easy-to-use system developed and administered by the Secretary of State’s office will ensure more accurate voter rolls while simultaneously saving money by reducing mail-in applications, requiring fewer provisional ballots on Election Day and even shortening wait times at polling places.

Using a current or expired driver’s license or other state-issued I.D., eligible voters will be able to update an existing voter registration or register for the first time anywhere they’re connected to the Internet.

The creation of an online voter registration system was authorized by Senate Bill 643, which passed the Legislature unanimously in March 2015.

If you need any information regarding registration or updating thereof, please don’t hesitate to contact our office at 575-461-0510.
