The County Treasurer is responsible for keeping accounts of and creating deposits for all county funds received by the various county departments, and for keeping the books, papers and money pertaining to the office ready for inspection by the Board of County Commissioners at all times. The Treasurer collects Property Taxes from land owners, which are the single greatest source of county government revenue. The Treasurer is responsible for accurately posting the taxes and distributing, monthly, these property taxes to the entities that receive a percentage of the total tax., i.e., the County School Districts, County Municipalities, etc. The Treasurer also collects and distributes Gross Receipts Tax and various other types of revenue that are distributed to the County by the State of New Mexico or various departments of the Federal Government.

Property Tax Payments
The second installment of the 2023 property tax was due April 10, 2024 and becomes delinquent May 10, 2024. One billing in November, 2023 is the only notice mailed for 2023 taxes.
Taxes not paid prior to the delinquency date incur interest at the rate of one (1) percent a month and penalty of one (1) percent a month, or a fraction thereof.
